Six single-column designs
PDF or DOCX, up to 5 MB. You get the full score across five areas, with ATS compatibility as one of them.
We extract the text the way parsing software does. A resume saved as an image, or with text in boxes and tables, comes back with gaps. You see exactly what was read.
Standard headings in a standard order: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills, Certifications. Creative headings and two-column layouts break the mapping.
The tools and skills a VA employer searches for, written out in full. Software matches words, not meaning; an abbreviation it does not know is a miss.
Name, email, phone and location as plain text at the top, not inside a header graphic or a sidebar the parser skips.
Dates aligned with roles, bullets that stay attached to the right job, no columns that read across instead of down.
One column, standard headings, real text. Each renders the same content, so you can switch between them without retyping anything. The photo designs are on the resume builder page, for applications a person reads first.
Sample content shown; not a real person.

It does not look at your resume. It extracts the text, then tries to sort that text into fields: name, contact details, each job with its title, employer and dates, education, skills. The sorting relies on cues a human takes for granted: a heading that says “Experience”, dates next to a job title, one line after another in reading order.
Two-column layouts read across the columns, so a skills sidebar ends up spliced into the middle of a job description. Text inside tables, text boxes and header graphics is often skipped entirely. A resume exported as an image has no text to extract at all. The checker runs the same extraction and shows you the result, so there is no guessing.
Keep two versions. A single-column version for portals and any application form with an upload button, and a designed version for email and direct applications. The improved resume gives you both from the same content: pick an ATS-safe template for the portal file, and a photo template for the version you attach to an email. Switching is free while your window is open, and the content is identical, so nothing gets out of sync.
No. Passing means a person gets to read your resume. What they read still has to show results, tools and scope in a few seconds. That is why the checker scores four more areas alongside ATS compatibility and why the rewrite works on wording, not only formatting. For a specific job, the job description matcher shows requirement by requirement where you stand.
The result lists issues by area, each with the line or section it refers to. The ATS-related ones fall into four groups:
The improved resume resolves the first, second and fourth group by construction. The third one it resolves only with facts from your own resume.
| Format | Use it when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| The default. Layout stays fixed on every device and every portal accepts it. | Must contain real text. A PDF exported from a design tool as a picture reads as empty. | |
| DOCX | The portal or the client asks for Word, or an agency will edit your resume before forwarding it. | Fonts can substitute on the reader's machine; keep the layout simple. |
The improved resume downloads as both, from the same content, so you can send whichever the posting asks for.
Take them from the posting, not from a generic list. Every tool, platform and task named in the job description is a keyword the screener will search for. The job description matcher does exactly this: it extracts the requirements from a posting and checks each one against your resume. For a broader list by role, the free resume keywords generator groups hard skills, tools and action verbs for common VA positions. Add only the ones that are true for you.
The photo and the colour do not; the layout that usually comes with them does. A coloured heading on a single-column page parses fine. A photo in a sidebar next to a skills list does not, because the parser reads across the columns. Icons in place of the words “email” and “phone” leave the parser with a symbol it cannot label. That is why our photo templates are marked for direct applications and the six single-column templates carry the ATS-safe label.
No single tool is. Employers use dozens of different systems, and they do not publish how they parse. What they share is the method: extract text, map sections, match keywords. The checker runs that same method on your file and shows you the outcome, which is the closest honest answer to “will it get through” that any checker can give. It cannot promise a result on one specific portal, and any tool that does is guessing.
An applicant tracking system is the software an employer or job portal uses to collect applications. It extracts the text from your resume, sorts it into fields and lets recruiters search and filter. If the extraction fails, your resume can be filtered out before a person reads it.
Yes. Upload your resume and you get a score, the issues found and a preview of the improved version for free. You pay only if you want the rewritten file, from ₱149.
The larger ones do, and most international clients hiring through job boards do. Even when a person reads your resume, the same rules that help software also help a recruiter scanning fifty applications: standard headings, one column, real text.
Most parsers ignore the photo itself, but photo templates usually come with sidebars and two columns, which is what breaks extraction. Use a single-column template for portals and keep the photo template for direct and email applications.
PDF with real text, or DOCX when the portal asks for it. Never an image, a scan or a PDF exported from a design tool as a flattened picture. Our improved resume downloads in both formats.
No. It means the software can read your resume and find the keywords. Whether you are the right fit is decided by a person reading the content, which is why the rewrite focuses on clear results, not just parsing.
If Canva exported it as a PDF with real text, yes. If the text is flattened into an image, the checker reports that nothing could be extracted, which is exactly what an employer's system would see. Export as text, or rebuild it from the improved version.
After any real change: a new role, a new tool, a new certification. Uploading the edited file gives you a fresh score. If you edit inside the improved resume, the Re-score button does the same without a new upload.
Your upload is stored privately in your account so you can revisit the score and the improved version. It is not shared with employers unless you set the improved resume as your profile resume.
Upload your resume, see the score and the issues, and fix them in a template that passes. Free until you want the file.
